This year for Emirati Women’s Day, Deliveroo is taking over Cinema Akil to host a special screening that will celebrate the cinematic work of 5 talented Emirati female filmmakers. The event will be hosted on the 28th of August, between 7:00 pm-9:00 pm at Cinema Akil, and is open to the public, free of charge!
In collaboration with Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation, Cinema Akil showcases ‘The Birds’ by Alfred Hitchcock and ‘The Housemaid’ by Kim Ki-Young, as part of the on-going exhibition General Behaviour by US-based Emirati artist Farah Al Qasimi.
This summer 24 June – 15 Sep, Cinema Akil sharpens the focus on much lauded and critiqued genre-defining filmmaker Stanley Kubrick (1928-1999) with 9 of his iconic masterpieces. Kubrick’s combination of artistry and technological innovation is a blueprint for modern filmmaking, and his influence can be found everywhere in contemporary cinema and pop culture, from the work of Steven Spielberg to David Bowie to Martin Scorsese.
Kicking off this cult classics program with a special Stanley Kubrick Retrospective, Cinema Akil will also be celebrating anniversaries, music and freedom with the wackiest characters from THE GODFATHER, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, PULP FICTION, DO THE RIGHT THING and PIERROT LE FOU
