Title : Ripples in a Pond
Politically engaged through the roles he portrays, meticulous with the scripts he chooses but also committed to the characters he embodies, Saleh Bakri has been gracing Arab Cinema for the past 15 years now. He has worked with the likes of Elia Suleiman and Rashid Masharawi in his native Palestine and had leading roles in all three of Annemarie Jacir’s feature films. Elsewhere in the Arab World, he has shot films in Lebanon, Morocco, and the UAE, and has worked alongside his own father, the unparalleled Mohammad Bakri (Wajeb, 2017), but also with acclaimed actors including Nadine Labaki (Costa Brava, Lebanon, 2021) and Lubna Azabal (The Blue Caftan, 2022).
In this Conversation, Saleh Bakri discusses the need to tell different Arab stories, working across the Arab World, his numerous collaborations with female directors and supporting a new generation of filmmakers from the region.
