FRANCOFILM FESTIVAL '21

5 March, 2021 To 11 March, 2021

In collaboration with the Embassies of France, Switzerland, Canada Luxembourg, and Belgium in the United Arab Emirates, join us for the 11th edition of FrancoFilm Festival kicking off on March 5, 2021. The annual festival aims to celebrate the French language through cinema. The 11th edition of FrancoFilm Festival echoes the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN’s 2030 agenda with a lineup that raises awareness around topics central for a sustainable world ranging from gender equality, to climate action and decent work and economic growth. The Festival, running until March 11, will feature regional premieres across genres including critically acclaimed drama, documentary, comedy and animated feature films opening with the award winning Red Soil by Farid Bentoumi.

While the SDGs are commonly reduced to climate issues this year’s film program covers broader themes such as gender equality, health and wellbeing, reduction of inequalities, peace, responsible consumption and production.

Coinciding with International Womens Day, FrancoFilm 2021 also celebrates the work of female film directors with the premieres of Antigone directed by Canadian filmmaker Sophie Deraspe, Looking for the Man with the Camera  directed by documentary filmmaker Boutheyna Bouslama, Madly in Life co-directed by Ann Sirot and Raphaël Balboni and The Swallows of Kabul by female director duo Zabou Breitman and Eléa Gobbé-Mévellec. The festival will also premiere the animated feature film Calamity, a Childhood of Martha Jane Cannary by Rémi Chayé based on the American frontierswoman Calamity Jane. On the 8th March, FrancoFilm 2021 will celebrate International Womens Day with a screening of Women by Anastasia Mikova  and Yann Arthus Bertrand.

FrancoFilm21 will also present the award-winning Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano’s The Specials starring Vincent Cassel and The Salt of Tears by Philippe Garrel.
