Welcoming a brand new film season at Alserkal Avenue, Cinema Akil returns to The Yard and A4 Space with a lineup celebrating the finest in a broad spectrum of must-see contemporary, international films, spanning the past decade
Curated with a wide range of audiences in mind, Work in Progress will capture the moment in the developing story of bringing an arthouse cinema to the heart of Al Quoz. The programme also broadens the conversation on the topic of “work” which is the central theme of Alserkal Avenue’s community programming. The topic will also be explored through artist commissions, talks, workshops and special events throughout the year.

The lineup will be an accessible program with the majority of screenings presented in the open-air theatre setting in The Yard, under the starry night. For 18 weeks, from November 2016 to March 2017, Cinema Akil will present a cinematic journey bringing audiences together for the love of film. Alserkal Avenue is the region’s foremost arts and culture neighbourhood located in Al Quoz, Dubai. Since it was established in 2007, Alserkal Avenue has grown to become an essential platform for the development of homegrown artistic and cultural initiatives, supporting a vibrant community of contemporary art galleries and alternative art spaces, together with design, media and industrial studios. In 2015 Alserkal Avenue began introducing its own homegrown programme as an arts organization, dedicated to encouraging new ideas, open dialogue and a more diverse and rich ecosystem for art in the region.
